Quick and Easy Quilting Ideas

There are so many basic quilt block patterns that are great for quick and easy quilting ideas that branch from the basic nine patch quilt block pattern.

Creating something from nothing is always a quilters favorite.

If you are a beginning quilter, or even a more experienced quilter who likes to have fun making a quick quilting project, this is the place for you.

Quilting at joann.com!
Many quilt block patterns from the Kansas City Star and the Ladies Art Company that date back to the late 1800's and early 1900's can become full size quilts in a weekend quilt project when you use the rotary cutting techniques and your sewing machine.

The basic nine patch grid pattern can become the base for your design creativity.

When you take the nine blocks within the block pattern, you can create “mini” blocks. From the “mini” blocks, you can create many variations of quilt patterns.

You can do a 4 Patch within the 9 Patch Block. Or a Nine Patch.

You can use half square triangles, quarter square triangles and much more.

You can subdivide each square for a more complex block pattern but still keeping with the quick and easy quilting ideas.

I like to use the rotary cutter and strip piecing for accuracy with easy machine piecing.

Try old favorite quilt block patterns like the thrifty, shoo fly, churn dash, card trick, double T, Jacobs ladder nine patch, Jacobs ladder four patch, bears paw, bears paw variation, Ohio star, twisted star, Old Maids Puzzle, the windmill, flying geese, Dutchmans puzzle, four knaves. Yankee puzzle, double X, the fox and geese, big dipper, the postage stamp basket, the road to Oklahoma, turnstile the maple leaf and many more free quilt block patterns.

Make the back of your quilt look as good as the front of your quilt. When the back is pressed and lays flat, so will the front. You will be very pleased with your efforts.

If you plan to make a complete quilt, frame your blocks or add a decorative border.

Or create a pattern within a pattern with the layout of your blocks.

Evaluate how much time you have to dedicate to your quilting efforts. You don't want to choose a quilt pattern that is very detailed when you don't have much time before you want your project completed.

Then again, if you want all of the detail from a complicated pattern or a lot of quilting and you do have the time, then just let the ideas start flowing.

Either way, just have fun with your quilt blocks creating your quilting ideas.
