The Red Cross Quilt Block Pattern

The Red Cross quilt block is one of the easiest nine patch variation patterns around. It uses only square unit pieces that create a great impact.

The quilt block can be set with white sashing to allow the pattern to appear to float in a complete quilt. Or frame the block with another color to create an entirely different look.

To complete one block for a sampler quilt:

Block size: 6 inches

Materials:
Fat quarter fabric in three colors
(red, light red and white)
Batting
Backing

Step 1 - Use the rotary cutting techniques.

Cut 4 patches 2 ½” square from the red fabric.
Cut 1 patch 2 ½” square from the light red fabric.
Cut 4 patches 2 ½” square from the white fabric.

Step 2 - Sew row one - white square, red square, white square.

Step 3 - Sew row two - red square, light red square, red square.

Step 4 - Sew row three - white square, red square, white square.

Step 5 - Sew the rows together to complete the quilt block.

Keep the center red square white for a signature quilt. You have endless possibilities.
