The Twelve Triangles Quilt Block

The twelve triangles quilt block is a timeless classic that has been around for many, many years. It is also known as the four seasons. Whatever you want to call this quilt block, it is still easy for the beginner quilter.

The twelve triangles quilt block, as the name says, is made up of twelve triangles. Ok. So there is one square to get us started.

This pattern is so easy to change the color combinations.

To complete one block for a sampler quilt:

Block size: 8 inches

Materials:
Fat quarter fabric in four colors
(green, gold, red and tan)
Backing
Batting

Step 1 - Use the rotary cutting techniques.

Cut 1 patch 3 ¾” square from the tan fabric.
Cut 2 patches 2 ¾” square from the red fabric. Sub-cut the squares diagonally to yield 4 triangles total.
Cut 2 patches 3 ¾” square from the gold fabric. Sub- cut the squares diagonally to yield 4 triangles.
Cut 2 patches 5” square from the green fabric. Sub-cut the squares diagonally to yield 4 triangles.

Step 2 - Sew a red triangle to the tan square. Sew a red triangle to the opposite side (bottom) of the tan square. Sew a red triangle to the left side of the tan square. Sew a red triangle to the right side of the tan square.

Step 3 - Sew a gold triangle to the square. Sew a gold triangle to the bottom side of the square. Sew a gold triangle to the left side of the square. Sew a gold triangle to the right side of the square.

Step 4 - Sew a green triangle to the square. Sew a green triangle to the bottom side of the square. Sew a green triangle to the left side of the square. Sew a gold triangle to the right side of the square.

Congratulations! You have completed the twelve triangles quilt block.
